PhotonDelta and the AIM Photonics Academy are organising the first meeting of the World Technology Mapping Forum. The goal of the forum is to produce the first World Photonic Systems Roadmap, looking ahead to global technology needs in 2030 and beyond. The three-day gathering will be held from June 20-22nd 2018 in Enschede, in the heart of the Netherlands high-tech sector.

Forum Venue 

The three-day highly technical gathering will be held from June 20-22nd 2018 in the Horst conference centre on the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. This is in the heart of one the Netherlands leading optics and nanotechnology regions. Organisation of the forum is possible thanks to the generous supported by the Netherlands Province of Overijssel.

Register to Participate

Please note that registration for the forum is by invitation only. Participation in the WTMF is free but travel to and from the venue as well as accommodation costs are at your own expense. 

If you participated in 2017 you will automatically get an invitation email at the start of February 2018. If you have not received an invitation by February 4th, please check your spam filter.

Request an invitation by stating your name, company/institutional affliation and state the photonics expertise that you wish to contribute to the meeting. Please note this is a highly technical planning forum and not a general conference about Photonics.

Enschede and Hengelo have other hotels available. Please note that if you are not in a preferred hotel, you will need to arrange your own transportation to and from the Forum location at the University of Twente and the evening event on the first day (June 20th). On sites such as or you can find a wide selection. We advise you to book early because that week in June is busy because of graduations.

This hotel is on the Western edge of the University of Twente Campus. This bright hotel is a 2-minute walk from the nearest bus stop and about a 15 minute walk to forum venue. The individually decorated, split-level rooms come with free Wi-Fi, TVs, and tea and coffeemakers. Upgraded, single-level rooms feature wood-paneling, as well as private balconies or terraces. There's a stylish brasserie restaurant alongside with exposed beams, and an informal bar/restaurant offering plush seating and high tea. Free parking is provided, and bike hire is available.

We have not heard about special rates from this hotel. gives a price indication of around 110 Euros per night for the dates in June.

IntercityHotel Enschede is modern business hotel located in the center of Enschede close to theaters, cinemas and restaurants. The train station is located approx. 350 m away, the market place and the Grote Kerk are about 7 minutes' walk away

The University Campus is on a site half way between Enschede and Hengelo. We can also recommend an excellent city hotel in nearby Hengelo.
